When you are doing, cold calling it is very important that you have a script in mind and written down that will help you ensure that you cover all important points and issues and that you do not forget anything that could be very important. If you forget something important even if you are nervous, it could potentially cost you a sale, or even a client. Regardless of whether you are, selling a service or a product having a cold calling script on hand that will help you stay on track is vital to success.

If you are able to strike a random conversation with strangers and be successful then you will not need a cold calling script as much as someone who is unable to talk to new people. However, cold calling scripts are still recommended to make sure you hit the major points that you intend to discuss with the potential customer or client. One of the biggest things you should remember is your script should outline all of the major benefits and ideas that you want to get across to your customer.

 

If your cold calling script has these points and benefits you want to make sure they are worded in a way that is successful and results in sales. If you have a script you are used, but it does not seem to generate many sales then you may want to consider revamping your script. It is important though to remember that your script should not read like a huge novel. Most telephone sales are fairly short, less than 30 minutes at the longest, and typically less than 10 minutes. For that 10 minutes you have even less time to catch the attention of the potential customer so you want to ensure you are on task as much as possible.

The customer does not want to hear that the sky is blue; they want to know why your product is so good, and why they possibly cannot live without it. You should try to limit the number of benefits to 10 or fewer and ensure that you can offer a bit of supporting facts, or evidence to prove the benefits. Just saying it is a wonderful product really does not mean much to customers, they want to know why your product is wonderful and who has said it is wonderful. For example, if your product has won some awards this is the time to mention it.

As you can imagine you are likely to create, several versions of your cold calling script before you ever fully decide upon a piece that is done. There is no hope of ever usually creating a cold calling script within a single day that meets all of your needs and results in sales for the majority of the calls you make. Remember time is money, so investing the time to create a good cold calling script will often result in having a much better script than if you just jot down a few notes and start dialing.
