There are several tips that can help you when you are working on your cold calling strategy. From the simple calls to the more complex calls, it is a good idea to approach each call with a strategy to ensure you stay on task and are able to focus. If you are not able to focus then you simply cannot ensure that your calls will be successful. It is important to remember, while your initial call may not be successful, the person you spoke with could always return as a customer later.

Your first cold calling strategy should be to make sure your script is close by and handy. Your script should also be on the top of your desk, which means absolutely no digging through papers and shuffling when you are on the phone. The last thing a potential customer should hear is the sound of dozens of papers being shuffled frantically as you look for your script so you can remember what you were going to say next. This is a major turn off to most customers and can result in someone hanging up on you rather quickly.

 

Your second cold calling strategy should be to ensure you have a smile on your face before you ever touch the first number on the keypad. If you are smiling and happy then it will show in the tone of your voice. If however you are in a bad mood then it will also come through on the phone and you will get nowhere very quickly. If you are smiling, your voice will give it away and it will allow people to really listen to what you have to say rather than focusing more on the hostility that would ooze from your voice if you were in a bad mood.

Your last major cold calling strategy should be to practice. If you practice your scripts as well as telephone conversations, in general you will see a dramatic improvement in the reaction you receive from people when they answer the phone. If you do not practice and merely wing each conversation then you are more likely to make mistakes and be very nervous, this nervousness can cost you potential sales and will ultimately affect sales for the worse.

As you can see several small touches and cold, calling strategy tips can really make a major impact on your sales approach. With the right ideas in place and plenty of practice, you can turn into a cold calling professional in no time at all and without spending years in training. As your confidence, increases from the additional practice then you will see greater sales, a happier boss and hopefully snag some nice bonus checks to make all of your hard work well worth the effort.
